The “Mondays at the Museum” project is an initiative that brings together heritage, health, and community in Huddersfield. This weekly event, held at the Tolson Memorial Museum, offers a variety of activities aimed at improving the health and well-being of local residents. Supported by partners including Kirklees Museums and Galleries, Tolson PCN and Personalised Care (Social Prescribing), this project is an example of how community collaboration can make a significant impact.
Aims and Objectives
The primary aim of “Mondays at the Museum” is to provide a welcoming, stigma-free space where individuals can engage in exercise, creative, musical, and heritage sessions. The project focuses on offering personalised care, fostering social connections, and promoting health awareness. By combining social prescribing with community-led activities, the initiative addresses critical health inequalities.
Activities and Impact
The project offers a wide range of activities, including yoga, Tai Chi, chair exercises, health walks, and gardening. These activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible, ensuring that people of varying abilities can participate. Additionally, pop-up health services, such as health checks provided by student nurses, are available to participants. This holistic approach enables individuals to manage their health proactively in a relaxed, informal setting.
