“Deighton by the Sea” was the official theme of the very first Deighton Carnival, which took place in August 2002.

Because Deighton (a district here in Huddersfield) is nowhere near the coast, the organisers famously brought in bags of sand and spread them across a local car park to create a makeshift “beach” for the community to enjoy.
